In-Situ Inc. is pleased to announce the acquisition of Alpha Designs LTD, Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. Alpha Designs is the leading manufacturer of total dissolved gas sensors and handheld tensionometers for water quality monitoring. In-Situ will make the Alpha Designs product portfolio available through its surface water quality product offering and through In-Situ Rentals.
The Alpha Design products are designed for measuring real-time total dissolved gases in water in order to avoid supersaturation of atmospheric gases, such as nitrogen and oxygen. Avoiding supersaturation of atmospheric gases in water is critical to healthy fish populations.
Supersaturation can be caused by numerous man made and natural sources
- Dam spillways which allow the discharge to plunge deeply into the receiving water
- Heated discharge of thermo-electric power plants can raise the temperature of the receiving water to a point of supersaturation
- Faulty water pumps used in aquaculture recirculatory systems can cause air entrainment if a leak occurs on the suction side of the pump
- Naturally high levels of nitrogen can be found in well water
- Algae blooms can cause increased levels of gas in the water

Precautions can be taken to keep supersaturation within safe levels, but accurate in-situ gas measurements must be made to determine if remedial action is effective. The TDG Sensor makes this measurement quick and easy.

What do I do if I previously purchased an Alpha Design TDG sensor through another manufacturer?
If you purchased the Alpha Design TDG technology through another manufacturer or supplier
(YSI, Hydrolab, Aquatic Eco-Systems, Hydrotech, etc.), you can still purchase your sensor from
your current source. Warranty repairs need to be directed to your current source as well.
For non-warranty repairs or product refurbishments, you have the option contacting In-Situ
directly or using Elecdata repair partner, Hydrotech ZS, in Hutto Texas.
Purchase of the Hydrolab TDG Probe, part number 70-027, and replacement membrane cartridges
for Hydrolab TDG probe, part number 70-020, can be made through Elecdata. Please call Elecdata
for pricing information.
Refurbishing of Hydrolab membrane cartridges is also supplied by In-Situ,
part number 70-020RW. (Please contact Elecdata or In-Situ’s Service Dept. directly
for an RMA number before sending membrane cartridges in for refurbishment.)
